Come and meet Fiz

CORRIE STAR’S TASTY TREATS

Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine’s Manchester restaurant and tea rooms, Annies, has won many accolades and awards since it opened two years ago.  More recently she and partner Chris Farr have expanded the business to sell their own made range of pickles and preserves through the restaurant and at specialist food markets.

Now they’ve teamed up with Oldham’s leading family-run garden centre, Daisy Nook, to offer their products direct to the public - the first time the range will be available through another retailer.

“It’s a perfect partnership,” explained Jennie.  “Both businesses are family run and share a common ethos of promoting local products that are superb quality.”

Jennie and her family will be launching the range, called Annies Tea Shop, at the garden centre’s Christmas preview evening on Wednesday 29 October between 6.30pm and 9pm.

“We’ll be letting people try some of the jams and chutneys for themselves – I’ll be happy to sign any of the purchases – and there’s a 10% discount for the night!” said the actress who is expecting her first child in November.

The Daisy Nook Christmas Preview Evening sees the unveiling of the store’s royal themed Christmas displays.  As well as Jennie’s appearance, Gary’s Feathered Friends will be giving shoppers the chance to meet their owls and birds of prey – and there’s 10% off just about everything in store for the evening.  Doors open at 6.30pm. www.daisynook.com

Tracy's wedding location

Here's where Rob and Tracy's wedding was filmed - Capesthorne Hall near Macclesfield in Cheshire.

As far as I'm aware it's the first time it's been used as a Corrie location - though I could be wrong.

Filming at Daisy Nook - again!

We've been filming at Daisy Nook for Channel 4's 'How To Sell Your Home'.  The home owners were being filmed looking for ideas to transform their garden - they liked what we had so much that they actually bought everything from us too!  that's what we call a result.  The show airs in the UK in January.

Is Deirdre about to quit?

News reaches me that actress Anne Kirkbride could be about to leave Corrie.  Of course the actress has been missing for several months - meaning that Mrs Barlow was absent for daughter Tracy's wedding and step-son Peter's trial.

ITV say they aren't aware that Anne is about to quit - but it's a story carried in several national newspapers today.
Poor Deirdre in the midst of another crisis.

Anne Kirkbride Dies

It was announced this evening that following a short illness actress Anne Kirkbride had died.  The actress played Deirdre Barlow in Corrie for many years but had left the show for a sabbatical last year.

Cunard's 175th Birthday

Well, what a weekend I've just had.  I was in Liverpool as a guest at the service to celebrate the Cunard shipping line's 175th birthday.  Yes, 175 years ago on Saturday (4 July) the first Cunard ship set sail from Liverpool to Canada and the USA.  Well, Queen Mary 2 set off to recreate the voyage so is currently en route for Halifax, NS.

I had a front row seat at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral for the special concert featuring the Liverpool Philharmonic and choir, the cathedral choir and guest soloists.  Plus the Welsh Guards, former Corrie stars Thelma Barlow and Roy Barraclough (of course they filmed on the old QE2), Carol Thatcher (Margaret Thatcher's daughter), former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, Lord David Steel, news presenters Jennie Bond and Michael Buerk, veteran of the Falklands war Simon Weston, plus descendants of Arthur Rostron (Captain of the Carpathia which rescued hundreds from the Titanic) and of Sir Samuel Cunard himself. It was a very moving two hour show - which I saw twice!

Then it was on board the QM2, my favourite Cunard ship, for a special dinner - before being kicked off before she set sail sadly!

A great treat.

Farewell Weatherfield!

It's time to hang up my hairnet, put the flying ducks away - to pack up me pigeons.

'What on earth's he on about?' I hear you ask.

Well, after more years than I care to - or can - remember, I'm waving a fond farewell to the annual Kemptville Travel Coronation Street Tour.  In recent years I scaled back my involvement from the full 10 to just 2 days but after this year I won't be guiding any days at all.  I'm pleased to be joining the group in September for two days of Corrie locations as my swan song.

It's been a great honour to share production tales and hidden locations with so many wonderful Canadian fans down the years and I'm sure I will miss it.

I'm just giving up the Kemptville Travel tour and the Weatherfield Walking Tours at the moment.  Anything I've agreed to do already in 2016 I will of course honour but then that will be the end of my Weatherfield duties after about 20 years.
